Seemed appropriate to 'flag' this...

There was a throwaway article in London's Evening Standard newspaper about this... I'd have ignored it, but the mention of Pat Robertson's name got me worried...

Dominionists and Isaeli tourist board to build Holy Land Theme Park

Plans for this seem to have been floating around since November last year, but this seems to be a fairly major step towards its realisation (or it might just be that UK news agencies are only picking up on this now, I'm not entirely sure)

Either way, it seems more-than-slightly disconcerting, especially in the context of Milleniallist dogma regarding the Holy Land.

There was an article about this in today's Guardian. We were hugely disappointed to discover that there aren't going to be any rides because we were having great fun coming up with tasteless ones.

I didn't see the actual Guardian article, but I'm guessing it's the same one that the link goes to...

Why do I suddenly have Phil Collins in my head?

"And I believe, that the Lord came to me, and said "Get me 15 million dollars by the weekend" to I may build that theme park unto the Lord, so that I may put gasoline in all of my limousines, further more, would I like to you?"

Either way, "Jesus He Knows Me" is still a well-deserved attack on Televangelists.

I might hold a minor grudge against Phil over what happened to Genesis after Peter Gabriel left, but I can still respect a good song... ;)

Yikes. In a rather dreadful comedy with Tim Allen and Kirstie Alley titled "For Richer and Poorer," Allen's sleazy character actually proposes a Holy Land theme park, with suitably tasteless rides.

It was supposed to be a JOKE!!!!

This kind of nonsense is why police states tend to put satirists in the deepest, darkest dungeons. lol

huh . . . wow.

well, i guess the xtians (as opposed to real christians) don't have the right to get all wigged out over the commercialization of christmas anymore.

*so many people,* in movies, songs, books, etc. have used the idea of a jesus theme park as a satire. i mean, talk about the ultimate modern money-making venture in the name of religion. i know that it's "supposed" to support israel, but who knows exactly where all that money's going, and how it'll be divvied up? will it be one of those things where the park takes just enough cash to keep things running and pay the employees, then turn the rest over to the israeli government, or are they going to be spending on stuff like advertising, p.r., wheeling and dealing, pocket-lining, and so forth? y'never know with these people.

and, yeah, the very idea that pat robertson's been mentioned in conjunction with all of this . . . well, he has a curious amount of clout for being such a joke of a person. i'm definitely more than a little wary.
